Amir Murillo details De Zerbi dispute at Marseille

Amir Murillo has described a personal dispute with Roberto De Zerbi that ended his time at Marseille and added to the damaging fallout around the Italian coach’s tenure. The Panama full-back said he felt disrespected and was eventually pushed towards the exit, insisting the conflict did not involve the team or the club.

Murillo left for Besiktas during the winter transfer window after the disagreement, before the end of the season. He said the consequences were visible to everyone at Marseille and maintained that the decision was driven by his relationship with De Zerbi rather than sporting issues within the squad. His departure was subsequently felt by OM during the second half of the championship.

The episode is part of a turbulent 18-month spell for De Zerbi, whose project had initially been planned for three years. His management was also linked to the previous season’s confrontation between Adrien Rabiot and Jonathan Rowe, a dispute that ended with both players leaving after a prolonged period of uncertainty. Ismaël Koné had earlier been sent to Rennes during De Zerbi’s tenure before rebuilding his career at Sassuolo.

Murillo will face Marseille with Besiktas in the Europa League, giving him an immediate reunion with the club and the coach at the centre of his account.
