ASVEL extend Betclic Elite start with Gravelines win
ASVEL made it two wins from two in Betclic Elite, while Gravelines-Dunkerque remain winless after a 70-65 defeat.
ASVEL remain alongside Dijon and Roanne at the early pace of the Betclic Elite after winning their second game in as many rounds. The result follows their success at Cholet last weekend, while Gravelines-Dunkerque have begun the campaign with consecutive defeats.
Gravelines-Dunkerque controlled the opening quarter and held a one-point advantage at half-time. ASVEL responded after the interval, building an eight-point lead before the hosts recovered to level the contest late in the third period. Tremont Waters then put the visitors ahead before the final quarter.
The BCM briefly regained control and moved in front again with four minutes remaining, but those were their final points. Nate Sestina restored ASVEL’s advantage before Waters added a long-range basket, allowing the visitors to finish the game with a 70-65 victory. The closing minutes were shaped by tighter defence as Gravelines-Dunkerque could not find another response.
Gravelines’ Jaren Lewis led the home effort with 14 points and nine rebounds, while Jacob Gilyard supplied 15 points and five assists. Waters finished with 14 points for ASVEL, whose ability to recover from an early deficit preserved their unbeaten start and kept them in contact with Dijon and Roanne.
