Barcelona open Liga with decisive new recruits

Barcelona’s new recruits made an immediate mark as the Catalan side opened its Liga campaign with a commanding victory at Elche. Karim Adeyemi scored on his official debut, while fellow newcomer Gordon provided an assist after coming on, helping turn a strong performance into a five-goal win.

Raphinha set Barcelona on course by converting a 14th-minute penalty after Fermín López won possession high up the pitch. Adeyemi then doubled the advantage in first-half stoppage time, finishing a move built by Lamine Yamal and Raphinha. Elche threatened briefly after the interval, with Morente hitting the post, but Barcelona soon regained control.

Raphinha added his second in the 67th minute following a combination involving Dani Olmo and Gordon. Gordon later chose to pass to Fermín López rather than shoot, allowing the midfielder to make it 4-0 before he completed the scoring with a fine finish in the 80th minute. Fermín ended the night with two assists and a goal, while Yamal also played a key role in several attacks.

The result places Elche 10th in the early LaLiga table and halts a recent sequence that had included draws with Al Ain, Johor Darul Ta'zim and Girona, along with wins over Kaizer Chiefs and Getafe. Elche’s next fixture is away to Racing Santander on August 28. Barcelona will host Athletic Bilbao in their next league match.
