Bassirou Diomaye Faye receives Dakar 2026 venues

Senegal’s president will formally take charge of the Olympic Youth Games Village and equestrian centre on August 29.

Senegal’s preparations for the Dakar 2026 Olympic Youth Games will reach a key institutional stage on Saturday, when President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye formally receives two major venues. The ceremony concerns the Olympic Village in Diamniadio and the Equestrian Centre, facilities intended for the first Olympic event of its kind to be held in Africa.

The programme is scheduled for August 29, 2026, beginning at 10am at the Olympic Village before moving to the Equestrian Centre. The two locations are being presented to the head of state as part of the process of making the Games’ infrastructure available.

The ceremony is being organised jointly by the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Its focus is therefore on the official handover of facilities rather than competition, with both ministries involved in preparing the sites for Dakar 2026.

The Olympic Village will be the first stop before the delegation proceeds to the equestrian venue. The formal reception places both sites within the Games’ delivery process and signals a further step in Senegal’s preparations for hosting the 2026 edition.
