Biarritz tighten grip as Colomiers remain winless

Biarritz moved provisionally to the top of Pro D2 after extending their perfect home start, while Colomiers remain without a win after three rounds. The result leaves the former semi-finalists 14th with only one point, although they avoid last place for now.

The Basque side won 38-20 in Thursday’s early fixture, securing a second bonus point in as many home matches. Biarritz scored six tries, with Vailanu, Hiriart-Urruty, Paia’aua, Sacco, Dolhagaray and Dawai crossing. Dawai has now scored in each of the club’s three matches this season. Colomiers replied through Pedemons after the final whistle, but the late try did not affect the outcome.

Biarritz established control early, opening the scoring after 10 minutes through Tonga recruit Vailanu’s first try for the club. Hiriart-Urruty then added another while Colomiers were down to 14 players, before Paia’aua’s score secured the attacking bonus. Sacco crossed before half-time and Dolhagaray scored less than five minutes after the restart as the hosts continued to create opportunities.

The match also included a tribute from the Biarritz supporters to former player Federico Aramburu, whose alleged killers are currently on trial. On the field, the contrasting starts were clear: Biarritz have won both home fixtures, while Colomiers have lost all three matches.
