Bruno Genesio details OM concerns over future and transfers
Bruno Genesio has ruled out an immediate resignation but admitted Marseille’s financial crisis is making the project harder to lead.
Bruno Genesio has rejected the prospect of resigning from Marseille for now, while making clear that the club’s financial situation has changed the conditions of his project. He said he remains focused on preparing the team for Monaco, with a broader assessment planned once the transfer window closes.
Marseille are under pressure to reduce their wage bill and repair finances that have remained in the red. The club must balance those obligations with the need to build a competitive squad, a task made more difficult by the expected departures of important players. Genesio highlighted the gap between his initial expectations and the current reality, noting that he had not anticipated having no new signing by August 29 while facing the sale of one of the team’s leading players.
Possible exits for Igor Paixão and Leonardo Balerdi would further weaken the squad, particularly because Marseille may not have the financial room to replace them. Genesio acknowledged that losing key players without reinforcements would make the project more difficult to manage.
Despite the uncertainty, the coach said his players have remained committed and focused in training. He praised their professionalism ahead of the Monaco trip, but also indicated that the team’s sporting possibilities will only be clear after the market shuts. For now, he says there is no immediate resignation on the agenda.
