France give Zinedine Zidane first home win over Belgium
France beat Belgium 4-1 to move three points clear at the top and give Zidane his first home win as national coach.
France strengthened their position at the top of Nations League Group A after coming from behind to beat Belgium 4-1 at the Stade de France. The result also gave Zinedine Zidane his first home victory since taking charge of the national team, three days after France drew 1-1 with Italy.
Belgium led when Dodi Lukebakio scored in the 35th minute, but France changed the match in the closing stages. Zidane introduced Désiré Doué, Rayan Cherki and Michael Olise during the second half, and the hosts produced all four of their goals after the interval.
Doué levelled with a left-footed strike from outside the penalty area in the 77th minute. Cherki then put France ahead four minutes later, converting from Olise’s cross. Olise completed the turnaround with two close-range finishes, including one in stoppage time.
France now have 10 points, three ahead of Italy and four clear of Belgium. Italy moved to seven points by beating Turkey 3-1, with Gianluca Scamacca, Riccardo Calafiori and Pio Esposito scoring for the winners after Aral Simsir had briefly levelled for Turkey. Turkey remain bottom on zero points after four defeats.
