Bruno Genesio not expected to resign amid OM slump

Bruno Genesio is under pressure at Marseille, but he is not expected to resign after three straight defeats.

Bruno Genesio is not expected to resign as Marseille face a difficult week and growing pressure after a sharp decline in form. Speculation about his immediate departure has increased, but those close to the club insist that resignation is not his intention.

Marseille began the season by beating Strasbourg 4-0 and taking first place after the opening round. Since then, however, the team has failed to win, losing 2-0 at Monaco, 3-2 at home to Paris FC and 1-0 at Rennes. The three-match losing run has erased the momentum of the opening weekend and left the club in a more difficult position than its start suggested.

Genesio recently said the team must remain ambitious in its football and that the players needed to produce more consistently. He also made clear that defining the club’s formal objectives was a matter for the leadership, while stating that his own targets were clear. The comments were interpreted as evidence of tension around Marseille’s direction after a transfer window in which the club made no signings.

The coach now faces a demanding schedule, with a Europa League trip to Besiktas followed by the visit of Paris Saint-Germain to the Vélodrome. Two more defeats have been suggested as a possible trigger for his departure, but that scenario has been firmly rejected by people close to the club.
