UEFA sends FIFA 42 questions over Balogun and Trump

UEFA wants FIFA to explain Balogun’s suspension, Trump’s role, its peace prize and a failed World Cup sale plan.

FIFA faces a formal demand from UEFA to account for 42 issues involving its decisions and governance. The European body wants detailed written answers and supporting documents before the FIFA Council’s next meeting in December.

The questions were submitted four days after the October 15 Council meeting, when FIFA president Gianni Infantino invited participants to send their concerns in writing. UEFA set November 2 as the deadline for a response and said any refusal to provide information or documents must be explained individually.

Among the issues is the suspension of United States forward Folarin Balogun, which was lifted during the World Cup before the last-16 match against Belgium. UEFA is asking what role Donald Trump played in that decision. It also wants details of the process that led to Trump receiving FIFA’s Peace Prize last winter, including whether independent procedures or objective criteria were used.

The list also covers FIFA’s abandoned proposal to involve private investors in the sale of the World Cup. Infantino apologised for that plan at the Council meeting. He remains the leading candidate to retain the presidency, with the next election scheduled for March 2027. In office since 2016, he is seeking a fourth term that would run until 2031.
