Bruno Genesio urges Marseille chiefs to define club goals

Bruno Genesio has put Marseille’s leadership under pressure to clarify the club’s objectives after another defeat, indicating a growing disagreement over how the season should be presented. The coach believes the directors must set out the team’s ambitions and acknowledge the difficulties affecting the squad, rather than leaving him to define them publicly.

Marseille lost 1-0 at Rennes on Friday, their third successive defeat. The result has increased the pressure around a team whose coach says the current group needs time and has fewer solutions than expected. Genesio also believes the bench lacks depth, making the demands placed on the players more difficult to meet immediately.

The transfer window had already caused frustration for the coach. Marseille’s recruitment proved more complicated than planned, including uncertainty over Paixao’s future, and Genesio had raised the issue internally before the latest match. He has said he is satisfied with the players available and will give his full effort with them, but he would welcome a more direct explanation from the club’s leadership.

President Stephane Richard has not assigned a precise target to the team or staff. He has, however, maintained that Marseille should continue to believe in securing European football. Genesio’s comments show that the absence of a clearly stated objective remains a point of tension between the coach and the club’s directors.
