Burkina Faso women seek Mogho-Naba’s blessing

Burkina Faso’s women’s handball team visited the Mogho-Naba before hosting the IHF Nation Trophy in Ouagadougou.

Burkina Faso’s women’s handball team has received the Mogho-Naba’s support before beginning its campaign at the IHF Nation Trophy Seniors for Zone 3. The players and technical staff met Mogho-Naba Baongho at his palace in Ouagadougou on Wednesday, August 26, less than a week before the tournament starts.

The competition will take place in the Burkinabe capital from September 2 to 6 and is scheduled to feature eight countries: Burkina Faso, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Benin, Nigeria, Togo, Liberia and Niger, whose participation remains uncertain. The hosts are continuing their preparations in a residential camp.

Federation president Boubakar Sanfo said the delegation sought the traditional leader’s blessings ahead of the regional assignment. Baongho urged the players and officials to maintain unity, compete without fear and represent Burkina Faso with honour. Captain and goalkeeper Orokia Kazony thanked him for the advice and said the squad was ready and confident.

Burkina Faso has set winning the inaugural tournament as its target. Success would also secure qualification for the women’s African handball championship, giving the home side a direct route to the continental finals.
