Christophe Dugarry attacks Roberto De Zerbi over Spurs start

Christophe Dugarry has sharply criticised Roberto De Zerbi, placing fresh attention on the Tottenham manager’s handling of the club’s difficult start. The former France international questioned De Zerbi’s suitability for a major club and condemned his public comments after the latest result.

Tottenham sit 17th in the Premier League with two points and have not scored in their opening matches. Their latest game ended 0-0 against Everton, following another goalless draw with Nottingham Forest. The slow start comes after the club spent about €370 million during the transfer window and finished 17th in each of the previous two seasons.

De Zerbi had sought to put the results in perspective after the Everton match. He highlighted Tottenham’s two consecutive clean sheets, argued that the team had shown greater unity, and apologised for the results while contrasting the current situation with the condition he inherited.

Dugarry rejected that defence during his appearance on RMC Sport. He portrayed De Zerbi’s five-year contract as exceptionally generous, questioned what the Italian had achieved at Brighton, Sassuolo and elsewhere, and said those experiences did not make him an unquestionable choice for a leading club. He also judged De Zerbi’s remarks about the team and its past state to be lacking in lucidity.
