Clément Berthet learns of wife's Faun Tour victory live

Clément Berthet discovered live on Eurosport that his wife Juliette had won the Faun Tour stage.

Clément Berthet received an unexpected boost during his Vuelta campaign on Friday when he learned live on Eurosport that his wife, Juliette Berthet, had won the day’s Faun Tour stage. The result gave the French couple a shared success on the same day, with Clément competing in Spain and Juliette claiming victory in her race.

Juliette, 27, took the win in a sprint after finishing alongside New Zealander Niahm Fisher-Black. The former French road champion secured her first road victory since taking the national title two years ago. Her participation had been uncertain after a crash the previous day left one of her knees affected, making the result particularly notable.

Clément, 29, also maintained his strong position at the Vuelta. He finished with the leading contenders on a demanding mountain stage and stayed seventh overall. This is only his second appearance in the Spanish Grand Tour, and his latest performance keeps him firmly in contention for a top-10 overall finish with two days remaining.

The Groupama-FDJ United rider reacted with visible happiness after receiving the news, saying Juliette had been close to winning for some time and had gone a long period without success. Her victory ended that wait while extending an excellent day for Berthet on and off the bike.
