Cristiano Ronaldo reaches 978 goals as Al-Nassr go top
Cristiano Ronaldo is 22 goals from 1,000 after scoring in Al-Nassr's 2-1 win over Al-Taawoun.
Cristiano Ronaldo is now 22 goals short of the 1,000 mark for his career, while Al-Nassr have moved into first place in the Saudi Pro League. His latest goal therefore carried significance for both the forward’s personal pursuit and his club’s position at the top of the table.
Ronaldo scored in Al-Nassr’s 2-1 victory against Al-Taawoun, registering his second goal of the season. The finish took his career total to 978, keeping the Portuguese forward within sight of the landmark figure he has been pursuing.
The strike also changed Al-Nassr’s scoring record for the Saudi Pro League era. Ronaldo now has 104 goals in the competition for the club, moving beyond Mohammad Al Sahlawi’s previous total of 103. He is consequently Al-Nassr’s leading scorer since the SPL era began.
That achievement does not yet place Ronaldo at the top of the club’s all-time scoring list. Majed Abdullah remains the record holder across every era, with 259 goals for Al-Nassr. Ronaldo’s immediate impact, however, was reflected in the league standings: the win over Al-Taawoun sent his team to the summit, alongside another step towards 1,000 career goals.
