Danny Namaso helps Auxerre end losing Ligue 1 start

Danny Namaso started as Auxerre beat Nice, earning their first Ligue 1 win after three defeats.

AJ Auxerre have their first Ligue 1 victory of the season, with Danny Namaso playing a prominent role as the club halted a difficult opening run. The result also relieved pressure on coach Will Still, whose position had come under scrutiny after three successive defeats.

Namaso started on the left wing against Nice at the Stade de l’Abbé-Deschamps and made an impact in an even contest. Cameron Archer settled the match in the 74th minute, scoring the only goal and giving Auxerre the points they needed. The victory came on the fourth matchday.

Auxerre are now 15th with three points. The win changes the early picture for a side that had lost its first three games, although the club remain near the bottom of the standings. Namaso, 26, has appeared in all four matches and has scored once this season.

The Cameroon and England international’s contribution comes despite his absence from David Pagou’s squad for the next international window. His start against Nice nevertheless marked a positive step for both the winger and Auxerre as they seek to build on their first result of the campaign.
