Daniel Ilyès Mehdid draws European transfer interest

Daniel Ilyès Mehdid’s progress at MC Alger has put the 19-year-old Algerian youth international on the radar of clubs in three European markets. Interest has moved beyond routine scouting, with several teams already making approaches as he considers a possible move in the next transfer window.

Mehdid began as a defensive midfielder before moving into central defence. That adjustment has become a defining part of his development. His size, clean technique and composure when building from the back have helped him fit the profile of a modern centre-back. He can also operate further forward when a team’s system requires it.

Belgium’s RAAL La Louvière and Zulte Waregem are tracking him, while Swiss club Basel has identified him as a possible addition to its defence. Portugal also offers a route, with Alverca, Rio Ave and Estoril Praia among the clubs interested.

Regular appearances for Algeria’s under-20 side have strengthened Mehdid’s profile outside domestic football. At 19, he now has several options if the current attention develops into a move, with his versatility and potential for further improvement adding to his appeal.
