Danny Namaso says Pagou has deeper Cameroon link

Danny Namaso has made clear why he sees David Pagou as a better fit for Cameroon than Marc Brys. The AJ Auxerre winger believes Pagou’s personal and professional ties to the country give him a stronger connection with the national team. Namaso also described Brys as a good coach, but said Pagou’s background in Cameroon makes the difference.

Namaso’s view followed Cameroon’s opening victory in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign against Comoros in Garoua on 24 September 2026. He created the move for David Roy Nyengue’s opening goal before scoring Cameroon’s third, registering his first goal for the Indomitable Lions.

The result gave Cameroon a positive start to the qualifiers, while Namaso strengthened his position in Pagou’s plans. He has now made 13 appearances for the national team and is beginning to establish himself as an important option on the left wing. Cameroon’s next fixture is against Congo in Brazzaville.

Namaso first played for Cameroon on 19 March 2025, when he featured for 45 minutes against Eswatini in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers under Brys. He remained involved during the dispute between the sports ministry and the Cameroon Football Federation, but said the difficulties around the team did not weaken his commitment to the national shirt. His stated ambition is to help Cameroon qualify for and win the next Africa Cup of Nations.
