Edgar Grospiron set to leave Alpes 2030 organising body

Alpes 2030 is facing the prospect of finding a new leader less than two years after Edgar Grospiron took charge. The Olympic mogul skiing champion, appointed on 18 February 2025, is expected to leave his role on Thursday, although the departure has not yet been formally confirmed. The decision would come 1,241 days before the opening ceremony of the Winter Games.

The organising committee’s executive bureau is due to meet in two days, ahead of the International Olympic Committee’s coordination commission visiting Lyon next week. The two regional presidents, the heads of France’s Olympic and Paralympic committees, Sports Minister Marina Ferrari and former prime minister Michel Barnier are expected to be involved in the move against Grospiron.

His possible exit adds to a serious governance crisis at the committee. Several senior figures have departed in recent months, including operations director Anne Murac, communications director Arthur Richer, remuneration committee president Bertrand Méheut and chief executive Cyril Linette. An audit of working conditions among staff has also been carried out and is due to be released in the coming days.

The committee has also postponed the planned announcement of a new major partner, following EDF. Before Grospiron’s appointment, Martin Fourcade, Jean-Luc Crétier, Vincent Jay, Gérard Holtz, Marie Martinod and Nathalie Péchalat had shown interest in leading the project.
