Étienne Mendy joins Saint-Étienne through 2030

AS Saint-Étienne have secured Senegalese winger Étienne Mendy on a long-term deal running until 2030. The 18-year-old moves to the French club after developing at Diambars, adding another young attacking option to Saint-Étienne’s squad.

Mendy’s last season ended with Diambars winning promotion to Senegal’s top division. He also featured in the Senegalese Cup final, where Diambars lost to USC Saint-Louis on penalties. His progress earned him recognition in Senegal’s youth teams, including the squad that won the 2024 UFOA-A Under-17 tournament before competing at both the Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations and the Under-17 World Cup.

The move follows earlier interest from Manchester United, where Mendy had a trial. He has already made his first appearance for Saint-Étienne’s reserve side, coming on in the 75th minute against Reims in a Challenge Espoirs fixture played behind closed doors. He joins several Senegalese players at the club, including Mamour Ndiaye, Lamine Sonko, Lassana Traoré and Mourtada Gueye. Traoré, like Mendy, previously came through Diambars and was part of Senegal’s 2013 Under-17 African championship-winning team.
