Fabián Ruiz makes his Ballon d’Or 2026 case

Fabián Ruiz has made a direct case for winning the 2026 Ballon d’Or, pointing to his collection of major honours with Paris Saint-Germain and Spain. The 30-year-old central midfielder is among the 30 nominees and has embraced his position in the race, while acknowledging the strength of the competition.

Ruiz’s argument rests primarily on his medal haul. He was part of PSG’s European title-winning team and also became a world champion with Spain. The Spanish international has earned 50 caps and scored seven goals for his country. He believes those achievements, along with his performances in decisive matches, give him a stronger case than any rival when trophies are considered.

The PSG player also addressed the three months he spent away from football. Ruiz does not expect that absence to damage his prospects, saying he returned to make an impact in important games for both club and country. He described the time away as demanding and requiring significant sacrifice.

Ruiz nevertheless regards his nomination as an achievement in itself. The winner will be announced in London on 26 October, with the Spanish midfielder accepting that voters will choose among several deserving candidates. His previous club career includes spells at Napoli and Real Betis before his move to PSG.
