Fanga Boxing Night sets Tyson against amateur champion

The Fanga Boxing Night will give Mali’s boxers a platform while placing an unbeaten amateur champion on the professional circuit. The event is scheduled for Saturday, September 26, at the Groupe Renouveau in Bamako, with the Mali Professional Boxing League and the Malian Boxing Federation organising it in partnership with Groupe Renouveau.

The headline bout will pit Aboubacar Traoré, known as Tyson, against Abdoulaye Traoré, known as Prédateur, in the light-heavyweight division. Tyson holds the Malian professional title and has been unbeaten in Mali for more than a decade. Prédateur recently won the Malian amateur championship in the same category and will make his professional debut.

Tyson enters with 10 wins and two defeats from 12 professional contests, including eight victories by knockout. Prédateur has won all 10 of his amateur bouts. Boxers from Senegal, Guinea and Niger are also expected, alongside Malians Ousmane Diarra, Ousmane Traoré, Aliou Sako, Hamidou Konaté and Souleymane Bagayoko.

Renouveau TV will broadcast the programme live. The venue’s limited capacity means large screens will be placed outside the Groupe Renouveau’s multipurpose hall. Organisers have presented the meeting as part of an effort to create more opportunities for boxers and help amateurs move into the professional ranks.
