FC Dortmund win Piéla resilience and unity cup

FC Dortmund’s success in Piéla gave a community football tournament a wider purpose, bringing residents from the town and neighbouring communes together around sport. The Resilience and Living Together Cup was created to encourage dialogue, fraternity and stronger ties between communities through football.

FC Dortmund defeated FC Folbongou 1-0 in the final on Saturday to claim the trophy. The competition was initiated by Biyourpo Lankoandé, whose project places football at the centre of efforts to promote social cohesion and shared values.

The champions received the cup, 20,000 CFA francs, a shirt and a ball. FC Folbongou collected 15,000 CFA francs, a shirt and a ball as runners-up. The third- and fourth-placed teams were awarded 10,000 and 5,000 CFA francs respectively, with each also receiving a ball.

Individual and collective performances were recognised as well, with 5,000 CFA francs presented to the leading scorer, best goalkeeper and fairest team. Special prizes were also handed out. The closing ceremony was attended by Piéla’s first deputy president of the special delegation, Aimé César Beogo, municipal secretary William Kaboré and patron Martin Noali, chief executive of Nouveau Gulmu.
