FC Nantes supporters question Kita successor project
Nantes fans still want the Kita family out but are demanding clarity over Paulo Tavares’s takeover bid.
The possible end of the Kita family’s ownership has not brought immediate relief among FC Nantes supporters. Instead, the prospect of a takeover has opened a new debate over whether the proposed replacement would be credible and sufficiently secure for the club.
Brigade Loire, Nantes’ main supporters’ group, continues to call for Waldemar Kita and his family to leave. However, it has made clear that a change of owner alone would not be enough to win its approval. The group has raised concerns about the takeover plan led by Paulo Tavares and Phenix Sports Invest, and is demanding greater openness about its financial strength and overall reliability.
The Phenix Sports Invest proposal is described as highly advanced and could reach €125 million, with Tavares as its leading figure. As the process has moved forward, questions about the project’s structure have increased the mistrust of some Nantes supporters. Brigade Loire has also addressed Nantes’ elected officials, criticising what it sees as a lack of information surrounding the deal.
The proposed change of ownership still has to pass the DNCG’s review. That examination is now one of the most important remaining stages, leaving the takeover unresolved despite the long-standing calls for the Kita family’s departure.
