Gabby Williams wins Alain Gilles Trophy ahead of Wembanyama

Gabby Williams edges Victor Wembanyama by nine points to win the Alain Gilles Trophy for the second time.

Gabby Williams has reclaimed the Alain Gilles Trophy, becoming the first two-time winner since Nando De Colo and extending women’s control of the award to three successive years. The prize recognises France’s best basketball player of the season, regardless of gender.

The France captain topped an exceptionally close vote with 203 points, nine more than Victor Wembanyama’s 194. Both players received 12 first-place selections, while Evan Fournier finished third on 148 points after winning the EuroLeague with Olympiacos and being named Final Four MVP. Williams’ victory margin made this the tightest ballot in the award’s history.

Williams, 30, earned the honour after winning the EuroLeague for a second time with Fenerbahce. She also played a major role in France’s run to the World Cup final, where the team again lost to the United States. Her individual tournament recognition included the best-defender award and a place in the competition’s best five. She now plays for Golden State in the WNBA, adding another chapter to a season that also strengthened her standing as the leader of Les Bleues.
