Harry Kane makes a cautious Ballon d'Or case

Harry Kane has entered the Ballon d'Or debate with a restrained argument for his candidacy, pointing to his record-breaking season rather than openly demanding the award. The winner will be announced on October 26 in London, Kane's birthplace, making the ceremony especially significant for the Bayern Munich striker.

Kane scored 73 goals last season, the second-highest total ever recorded. Only Lionel Messi's 82 goals in 69 matches during the 2011-12 campaign stand above it. Kane described the past season as the best of his career, both personally and collectively, while stressing that the award is decided by a 100-journalist voting panel and is therefore outside his control.

The England captain, who has 121 international appearances and 85 goals, said he prefers to let his numbers make the case. He also indicated that his focus has already shifted to the new campaign, even as the Ballon d'Or remains a major talking point until the ceremony.

Kane credited sports doctor Alejandro Elorriaga with helping him maintain and improve his level. They have worked together since March 2020, and Kane said that partnership has been central to his fitness and ability to play so many matches. He added that his performances had improved with age rather than declined.
