Igor Paixao reveals Flamengo is his dream club
The Marseille winger wants to play for Flamengo one day, but no transfer is close and his focus remains on OM.
Igor Paixao has identified Flamengo as his long-term destination, although his declaration does not point to an imminent move away from Marseille. The 26-year-old Brazilian winger stayed at OM during the latest transfer window and remains focused on his current season.
Paixao’s connection with Flamengo began in childhood. He supports the Rio de Janeiro club alongside his family, a passion shared with his father and grandfather. The three continue to follow Flamengo matches when their schedules allow despite the time difference between Brazil and Europe.
Flamengo and Palmeiras have contacted Paixao’s representatives to gather information, but neither club has made a formal offer. The player therefore regards the interest as speculation and has not set a timetable for a return to Brazil. Flamengo is a personal and family ambition rather than a planned next transfer.
Paixao also had interest from Sunderland during the window but did not want to leave Marseille. OM would have struggled to find a replacement, while Bruno Genesio played a direct role in persuading him to stay by offering him an important role. Paixao’s nearer-term ambition is to establish himself at Marseille before eventually testing himself in the Premier League, with Flamengo remaining a more distant objective.
