Jasper Philipsen seals Renewi Tour with third win
Jasper Philipsen won the Renewi Tour overall after taking his third stage victory in five days in Leuven.
Jasper Philipsen secured the Renewi Tour title for Alpecin-Premier Tech, completing a dominant week with a third stage victory. His success also extended Belgium’s run to four consecutive wins in the event.
Philipsen prevailed in the final stage in Leuven, adding to victories on the second and fourth days. He launched his sprint 250 metres from the finish and finished ahead of Mike Teunissen and Luca Mozzato. The result confirmed his position at the top of the general classification.
The finale followed an active day on the Belgian roads. Frederik Frison and Robert Stannard formed the initial breakaway before Dries De Bondt, Edward Theuns and Hartthijs de Vries joined them to create a five-rider group. UAE Team Emirates-XRG and Decathlon-CMA CGM led the pursuit, while Florian Vermeersch and Jenno Berckmoes made late attempts to disrupt the race.
Berckmoes, Philipsen’s main rival for the overall victory, attacked again on the final climb, but Philipsen stayed with him. The remaining escapees were caught inside the last five kilometres, and Carl-Frederik Bevort was also brought back in the finishing straight. Philipsen then controlled the sprint to close the race with three wins from five stages.
