Joan Caudullo extends Montpellier deal through 2029

Montpellier have secured Joan Caudullo’s future with a three-season contract extension running until June 2029. The agreement keeps the manager at the centre of the project launched in 2024 and gives the club continuity beyond the next two campaigns.

Caudullo took charge in July 2024, replacing Patrice Collazo after Montpellier had preserved their Top 14 status through a play-off victory over Grenoble. His first season ended with the club in ninth place, but the following campaign produced a major improvement. Montpellier won the Challenge Cup against Ulster before reaching the Top 14 final, where Toulouse prevailed by eight points.

The extension preserves Caudullo’s partnership with Bernard Laporte, who serves as the club’s director of rugby. It also comes after a mixed opening to the 2026-27 season, with Montpellier beaten at home by Pau before winning away against promoted Vannes. Caudullo has said that planning beyond 2027 matters to him, his staff and his squad. The coach, who was born in Montpellier and has spent most of his life there, will now lead the club through June 2029.
