Julian Alvarez skips Atletico training again, Simeone supportive

Julian Alvarez missed Atletico Madrid's collective session for a third straight day, while Diego Simeone offered support.

Julian Alvarez’s continued absence has deepened uncertainty over his Atletico Madrid future, but Diego Simeone has signalled that the door remains open. The coach said he wants to help the Argentina forward return to being a significant player for the club if he stays for 2026-27. He also made clear that he shares Atletico’s firm position on the matter.

Alvarez did not join Atletico’s collective training for the third consecutive day. The club had previously linked his non-attendance to feeling unwell, and he is not expected to feature against Sevilla on Saturday. His latest appearance came last weekend against Villarreal, when he played 25 minutes.

The forward has expressed a desire to move to Barcelona in recent weeks. Atletico, however, does not want to let its star join another La Liga club. That leaves Alvarez weighing a continuation in Madrid against a move to Arsenal, who have maintained their interest but are waiting for a clear indication that he wants to join. Friday is the deadline set by the clubs for his decision. Simeone said the player would receive the support needed to feel important again if he returns, leaving a sporting reconciliation possible.
