Keito Nakamura points to OL's many tactical rules

Keito Nakamura has revealed the scale of his adjustment at Olympique Lyonnais, saying Paulo Fonseca’s approach contains “many rules”. The Japan international made the comment during interviews with Japanese media as he adapts to a more tightly defined role at the club.

Nakamura arrived this summer to add pace and creativity on Lyon’s right flank. His previous experience at Stade de Reims gave him greater freedom, while Fonseca’s system places closer demands on defensive duties and positioning. The change is therefore forcing the winger to reconsider habits developed in his earlier environment rather than simply rely on his natural attacking instincts.

That adaptation may help explain Nakamura’s relatively subdued start at OL. The club brought him in after Malick Fofana’s departure as part of a reshaping of its attacking options, with his speed, dribbling and finishing viewed as a match for the squad’s needs. Competition for minutes remains significant, particularly with Julien Duranville returning to the offensive rotation. Nakamura offers a different profile from Fofana, but his progress will depend first on mastering Fonseca’s demanding structure. The process will also test how effectively the coach can integrate an attacker whose strengths were developed in a less prescriptive setting.
