Koumassi Court Reopens After Wave-BAL Renovation
Koumassi’s upgraded court will serve 3,000 young players weekly, including 300 girls in a new U18 programme.
Young players in Koumassi now have a refurbished basketball court designed for regular training, evening play and local competition. Wave Côte d’Ivoire and the Basketball Africa League inaugurated the facility at the Lac de Koumassi school group on Saturday, 3 October 2026.
The court is expected to serve about 3,000 young people each week, including 2,500 pupils from eight schools. Its upgrades include a rebuilt playing surface, new backboards, professional markings and lighting for night sessions. Benches made from recycled plastic have also been installed.
The facility will host a basketball development programme for 300 girls under 18, alongside Ligue Jeune U18 competitions every Saturday. The upgraded court meets the requirements for local and regional events, giving young players in the commune a regular venue to develop their skills and compete.
FIBB president Moussa Diarra has committed the federation to ensuring the court is properly used and maintained. The project forms part of NBA Africa’s plan to build or renovate 1,000 basketball courts across the continent over the next decade, while Wave and the BAL intend to continue youth-focused infrastructure and training initiatives in Côte d’Ivoire.
