Kvaratskhelia backed for Ballon d’Or as Barça shield Abdelkarim

French backing puts Kvaratskhelia in the Ballon d’Or debate as Barcelona seek to raise Hamza Abdelkarim’s release clause.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has emerged as the leading choice in French media’s Ballon d’Or discussion, with the award scheduled for 26 October. Le Parisien has placed the Paris Saint-Germain winger at the centre of its coverage, while Luis Enrique has said he wants a player from the club to win. Kvaratskhelia would succeed teammate Ousmane Dembélé if selected.

The Georgian has also received public support from Unai Emery, Toni Kroos, Samir Nasri, Michel Platini and Luis Fernandez. His outstanding season has strengthened his case, although Dembélé, Kylian Mbappé and several leading Spain internationals remain among the main contenders.

Barcelona, meanwhile, are taking steps to secure the future of Egyptian forward Hamza Abdelkarim. The 18-year-old scored four times in pre-season but played only four minutes across the first three La Liga games. That limited involvement was a deliberate decision while the transfer window remained open, with the club concerned that his €15 million release clause could attract another team.

With the market now closed, Barcelona are working on a new contract and want to raise Abdelkarim’s clause to €150 million. Once his position is protected, the young striker is expected to receive more opportunities with the first team.
