Kylian Mbappe acknowledges mistakes behind public image
The Real Madrid forward says television cannot reveal his full personality and accepts that he has made mistakes.
Kylian Mbappe has pushed back against the image of perfection attached to him, openly accepting that he has made mistakes during his career. The Real Madrid forward said viewers cannot truly know him through television and warned that public judgments about his personality can be far removed from reality.
The 27-year-old began his professional career with Monaco before becoming one of football’s biggest names at Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and France. He has also been France’s leading scorer since the 2026 World Cup. His remarks acknowledge the difficult balance between his status as a global star and the limited view of his character available to the public.
Mbappe said he had repeatedly shown that he was capable of doing the wrong thing and was comfortable admitting it. He compared the situation with judging an actor solely through films or a presenter only through television programmes, arguing that neither gives a complete picture of the person involved. The France international added that he avoids drawing firm conclusions about public figures because he knows from experience how different life can be away from the screen. He accepted that people will continue to hold opinions about him, including opinions that may be inaccurate, but said that this is an unavoidable part of public life.
