Lewis Hamilton crashes during Spanish GP final practice

Lewis Hamilton escaped injury but Ferrari faces repairs before qualifying after the driver crashed during final practice for the Spanish Grand Prix at Madring. The accident interrupted his preparation and brought the session to a stop while the safety barriers were repaired.

Hamilton was travelling at high speed on the straight leading to turn 22 when he braked too late and locked the wheels of his Ferrari. The car hit the barriers, causing heavy damage to its front wing. Hamilton was able to reverse, but the situation worsened when part of the broken wing became lodged beneath the car and punctured the right-front tyre. He later stopped at turn 14 and climbed out rather than risk continuing with the damaged car.

The incident followed a promising Friday for Hamilton, who had recorded fourth place in the first practice session and third in the second. He sits third in the drivers’ championship, 10 points behind George Russell and 76 behind leader Kimi Antonelli. Final practice was the last session before qualifying, meaning Ferrari must repair the car while Hamilton’s preparation for the decisive session has been disrupted.
