Lewis Hamilton demands Ferrari rethink after Dutch GP

Fourth at Zandvoort, Lewis Hamilton says Ferrari’s delayed call cost him a likely podium and demands a firm review.

Lewis Hamilton has called for Ferrari to improve its race decisions after he believed a podium finish slipped away at the Dutch Grand Prix. The British driver said the team needed to work more effectively and indicated that the issue would be addressed internally before the next race.

Hamilton started fifth and finished fourth, applying pressure to George Russell during the closing laps. Ferrari’s strategy became complicated after Charles Leclerc held up his team-mate beyond the halfway point, leading to tense exchanges between the drivers and the pit wall. An early stop for Hamilton eventually eased the situation, although he was unhappy with how long Ferrari took to act.

Hamilton’s view was that Ferrari should have ordered Leclerc to move aside sooner, which he felt would probably have put him on the podium. He pointed to Mercedes allowing Andrea Kimi Antonelli to pass Russell late in the race as an example of a team making a clear decision in time. The seven-time world champion said his ambition was to help Ferrari compete for a championship, making the forthcoming discussion with team management calm but firm. Ferrari now turns its attention to the Italian Grand Prix at Monza.
