Lille respond to demanding 2026-27 Champions League draw

Lille’s return to the Champions League will put their progress from last season’s strong Ligue 1 campaign under immediate pressure. Olivier Létang welcomed the qualification while acknowledging the scale of the challenge and called for the club to focus on building a successful European campaign rather than looking back.

Drawn from pot four for the 2026-27 league phase, Lille will play eight matches. Bayern Munich, Real Betis, Galatasaray and Slovan Bratislava will visit France, while Lille will travel to Arsenal, Roma, Bodø/Glimt and Stuttgart. The schedule gives the club several high-profile fixtures as well as difficult away trips across Europe.

Létang also stressed that the existing squad already has quality and depth. He said Lille could still add one or two players before the transfer window closes, but argued that their performance would depend more on collective strength than on a small number of arrivals. The club will assess the squad after the market shuts, with the future of Fernandez-Pardo still to be clarified on September 2.

The draw also offers a reunion for Olivier Giroud with Arsenal, where he will return at the age of 40. Létang presented that storyline as attractive, but made clear that Lille’s priority is collective performance across a demanding Champions League schedule.
