LOSC move top after controlled win over Troyes

Lille responded to their European setback by beating Troyes 2-0 and taking first place in Ligue 1.

Lille have moved to the top of Ligue 1 after defeating Troyes 2-0, giving the club a strong response to its Champions League loss to Real Betis a few days earlier. The victory continues the LOSC’s impressive start to the league campaign under Davide Ancelotti. Troyes, meanwhile, sit 10th after the fourth round of matches.

Lille began with immediate intent and thought they had taken the lead through Hákon Haraldsson in the opening minutes. VAR intervention overturned that effort because of an offside position. The home side did not lose momentum, however, and went ahead in the 17th minute. Tiago Santos received the ball on the right before sending a powerful right-footed shot into the opposite top corner.

The advantage reflected Lille’s control of the first half, although the hosts were unable to add a second before the break. Ayase Ueda headed wide from a Dilane Bakwa corner, while Troyes also found opportunities to respond. Jérémy Le Douaron was involved in several attacking situations and sent a late first-half attempt over the bar.

Troyes were more willing to attack after the interval, forcing Lille to remain patient and disciplined. The leaders preserved their narrow advantage through an organised performance before Ethan Mbappé confirmed the result in the third minute of stoppage time. Santos, already a scorer earlier in the match, has now reached two league goals this season. The three points keep Lille’s momentum intact and place them at the summit, while Troyes leave the match in 10th position.
