Ludovic Ajorque remembers Éric Roy after Brest home return
Ludovic Ajorque paid tribute to Éric Roy after Brest’s 2-2 draw with Toulouse at Francis-Le Blé.
Ludovic Ajorque marked Brest’s return to Francis-Le Blé by remembering former coach Éric Roy, whose death has left a deep absence around the club. The striker scored the stoppage-time equaliser against Toulouse, but the evening’s wider significance was the opportunity to honour Roy and the support shown in his memory.
Brest drew 2-2 with Toulouse in the second round of Ligue 1, with Ajorque restoring parity in the fifth minute of added time. It was the club’s first home fixture since Roy died from cancer at the age of 58. Ajorque worked with him for two years and recalled the familiar image of Roy on the touchline wearing his cap. Supporters also applauded Roy in the 58th minute.
The official tribute has been postponed until Brest host Paris Saint-Germain on 13 September because the Quimpe stand remains suspended. Fans nevertheless gathered near the stand and distributed shirts bearing Roy’s “King Eric” nickname. Roy took charge in January 2023, kept Brest in Ligue 1 in his first season, then guided the club to Champions League qualification before overseeing its European campaign in 2024-25. He remained in post until the end of last season. Brest’s staff and players now see continuing that work as part of his legacy.
