Maguette Gueye scores first-start goal for Racing Santander

Maguette Gueye has strengthened his case for a bigger role at Racing Santander after scoring on his first start of the LaLiga season against Barcelona. The 21-year-old Senegalese midfielder had begun the campaign among the substitutes before being selected for the trip to the Catalan side.

Gueye’s goal came around the hour mark and brought Racing back to 2-1. He began the move himself before Arana returned the ball with a pass into the area, allowing the midfielder to take control and finish with a diagonal shot. The strike was the highlight of his first start for the club this season.

Racing went into the match in seventh place with four points from three league games. Their record was one win, one draw and one defeat, with four goals scored and three conceded. Their recent sequence before the Barcelona fixture included wins over Cadiz and Valladolid, a draw at Malaga, a draw at Real Sociedad and a loss at Osasuna.

Racing’s next listed league match is away to Celta de Vigo on September 19, 2026. Gueye’s performance in Barcelona gives coach Jose Manuel Lopez another option in midfield as the season continues.
