Manchester City lose Semenyo for around eight weeks
Manchester City will miss Antoine Semenyo for about eight weeks, while Erling Haaland remains a doubt.
Manchester City will be without Antoine Semenyo for about eight weeks, removing an important attacking option during a demanding run of fixtures. The Ghanaian-English right winger has been ruled out with a collateral ligament injury, although the diagnosis was less serious than initially feared. The problem is not muscular, and his recovery will now be the priority before a planned return in December.
Semenyo’s absence follows City’s 3-2 Premier League victory over Ipswich Town. Phil Foden opened the scoring and Erling Haaland struck twice, but the Norwegian forward finished the match carrying a concern of his own. Enzo Maresca said Haaland could still be available, with his condition to be assessed after training.
City remain top of the Premier League after seven successive victories. Semenyo’s lay-off nevertheless leaves the club without a £72 million summer arrival for close to two months, while Foden may have a larger role in attack after scoring against Ipswich. City are also seeking a response in the Champions League after losing to Paris Saint-Germain, with AEK Athens next at the Etihad Stadium.
