Marijn van den Berg wins in Luxembourg and takes lead

Marijn van den Berg is the new leader of the Tour de Luxembourg after adding the second stage victory to his third-place finish on the opening day. The EF Education-EasyPost rider’s success in Junglinster gave him the overall lead through time bonuses, putting him ahead of Pierre Gautherat and Mathieu van der Poel, who share the same overall time.

The 166.8-kilometre stage ran from Differdange to Junglinster. The peloton stayed together for roughly 20 kilometres before Maël Guégan’s attack helped create a five-man breakaway. Jonas Reibsch briefly moved across but could not complete the junction, while the main group kept the escape within two minutes for most of the route.

The pace increased during the final 50 kilometres as Visma-Lease a Bike joined the chase. Several riders were dropped from the break, and the remaining escapees were caught with 10 kilometres left. A split in the peloton briefly left Van der Poel behind, though he returned before the finish.

Pepijn Rinderink began the sprint with 400 metres remaining, but Van der Poel settled for fifth place. Van den Berg took the win ahead of Timo Kielich and Gautherat, who claimed another podium finish. Gautherat remains second overall, while the next stage is expected to favour the puncheurs.
