Michael Carrick praises Carlos Baleba after United move

The Manchester United coach says Carlos Baleba can strengthen his midfield, though an ankle issue delays his debut.

Carlos Baleba is already being viewed by Manchester United manager Michael Carrick as a player who can bring greater stability to the team’s midfield. Carrick described the Cameroon international’s arrival as a major boost and highlighted the different qualities he can add to the squad.

Baleba has joined United on a five-season contract with an additional year available as an option. His debut will not come immediately, however, because of a minor ankle problem. Carrick expects the midfielder to be sidelined for a short period, but said the issue is not serious and expressed confidence about seeing him back with the group.

Carrick’s comments came before Sunday’s Premier League meeting with Ipswich Town at Old Trafford. United are seeking a response after losing to promoted Hull City in their opening match, a result that increased pressure on the manager before the club’s Champions League group-stage campaign. Baleba’s absence means Carrick must wait before using the midfielder he believes can improve the balance of his squad.

The coach also pointed to Baleba’s potential and the range of combinations he could offer once available. The 22-year-old’s signing is therefore being presented as a long-term addition, with his first contribution dependent on his recovery from the ankle problem.
