Nasser al-Khelaïfi celebrates EFC passing 850 members

The European Football Clubs (EFC) has expanded its reach beyond 850 members, a milestone that Nasser al-Khelaïfi says strengthens the organisation’s role in shaping the future of club football. The Paris Saint-Germain president leads the body, formerly known as the European Club Association, as it seeks to keep clubs at the centre of decision-making.

The latest additions include Spain’s Real Racing Club, Albania’s KS Kastrioti, FC Groningen of the Netherlands and English side Hull City. The EFC says its membership gives clubs access to development support, working groups and representation in football’s decision-making structures. It is recognised by both UEFA and FIFA as the representative organisation for European clubs.

Al-Khelaïfi described the growth as an important stage for the EFC and said its purpose was to deliver useful services to clubs of every size. He also stressed the importance of working with football’s various stakeholders so members can influence decisions affecting the European and international club game.

The enlarged membership gives the EFC significant weight during continuing uncertainty around global football governance. FIFA is expected to need the clubs’ agreement for the proposed 2029 Club World Cup, although no decision has yet been made on how that competition will be organised. The coming weeks are expected to bring greater clarity.
