Olympique Marseille target Lucas Perri after Rulli exit

Olympique Marseille could revise its plan for the goalkeeper position after Geronimo Rulli’s departure for Manchester City. Jeffrey de Lange began the 2026-27 season as the club’s first choice, but the Dutchman may now face competition from an experienced Ligue 1 goalkeeper rather than inherit the role without challenge.

De Lange strengthened his case in Marseille’s 4-0 victory over Strasbourg. Bruno Genesio praised his understanding of the club and said the goalkeeper had shown he could take responsibility. The coach also highlighted De Lange’s ability to contribute with his feet while stressing that his primary duty remains stopping goals.

The possible arrival is Lucas Perri, who previously played for Olympique Lyonnais and already knows the French top flight. The Brazilian produced a high-level Ligue 1 season two years ago before leaving for Leeds United, a move he did not want. He had been expected to join Torino on loan with a €14 million purchase option, but that operation has been put on hold.

That pause gives Marseille an opening before the transfer window closes. The club has maintained a policy of making its squad members available for transfer for more than two months, but it must also recruit across the team. Perri’s availability could therefore turn the goalkeeper position into a contest with De Lange this season.
