Pape Chérif Ndiaye ends Senegal international career

The 30-year-old Samsunspor forward has retired from Senegal duty after two years and 19 appearances.

Pape Chérif Ndiaye has ended his international career with Senegal after two years with the national team. The 30-year-old forward announced the decision on his social media accounts, closing his time with the Lions while stressing that leaving the national shirt did not mean turning away from his country.

Ndiaye finishes with 19 caps and four goals for Senegal. His involvement began when Aliou Cissé selected him in May 2024 for the World Cup qualifying fixtures against the Democratic Republic of Congo and Mauritania. He made his debut against the DR Congo on June 6, coming on late for Nicolas Jackson, before featuring in Senegal’s victory over Mauritania four days later.

The Samsunspor player said representing Senegal had been one of the greatest honours of his career. He also referred to the happiness, challenges, emotions and memories gathered during his time with the team, describing the experience as a source of lasting pride and gratitude.

Ndiaye developed at HLM Grand-Yoff FC before moving to Europe in 2017 with Belgian side Waasland-Beveren, now known as SK Beveren. He later played in several European leagues before joining Samsunspor. His retirement brings an end to a national-team spell that began relatively late in his career but produced four goals across 19 appearances.
