Rennes face Le Mans in search of first Ligue 1 win

Rennes and Le Mans meet at Roazhon Park with both clubs seeking their first Ligue 1 victory of the season. A win would move either side forward after an opening result that left the teams level on points, while Le Mans have the added opportunity to mark their return to the top flight with a statement result away from home.

After one match, Rennes sit ninth with one point and Le Mans are seventh, also with one point. Rennes began with a draw against Paris Saint-Germain, despite holding a two-goal advantage until the 70th minute. That result offered encouragement but also left Franck Haise’s side with unfinished business as they prepare to face a promoted opponent.

Rennes arrive with two wins in their last five matches, against Club Brugge and Guingamp, followed by defeats to Caen, Lausanne and Marseille. Le Mans have a stronger sequence: wins over Nantes, Versailles and Bastia, a loss to La Roche VF and a draw with Reims. The recent form gives the visitors grounds for confidence, even though Rennes carry the favourites’ tag.

Rain was becoming heavier at Roazhon Park shortly before the match. Haise has warned against underestimating Le Mans, describing the returning side as a different challenge from PSG and one that demands full attention.
