Rodri mocks Valencia from Barcelona bench in 0-5 win
Rodri openly derided Valencia from Barcelona's bench as the leaders completed a fourth straight league win.
Rodri has drawn attention after openly ridiculing Valencia’s performance from the Barcelona bench during a one-sided victory at Mestalla. Speaking to Pau Cubarsí, he repeatedly described the home side as weak before using even harsher language to dismiss their quality. He also questioned their league finish from last season and remarked that Valencia had barely crossed halfway during the second period.
Barcelona led 3-0 when Rodri was taken off in the 62nd minute, with Marc Bernal replacing him. The midfielder had made his first start since arriving at the Catalan club this summer, and left the field to applause from the Mestalla crowd. Cameras captured his comments while he sat beside Cubarsí, who had also been substituted.
The result left Barcelona top after four wins from four matches. Valencia, by contrast, remained bottom of the 2026-27 table after one draw and three defeats. Their 0-5 loss added to a difficult start following last season’s ninth-place finish. Valencia’s recent decline contrasts with a history that includes six Spanish titles, although their last championship came in 2004 and their most recent Champions League appearance was in 2019-20.
