Salahdine Parnasse enters UFC lightweight top 10

Salahdine Parnasse has broken into the UFC lightweight top 10 after only one fight, giving the Franco-Moroccan an immediate place among the division’s leading contenders. The 28-year-old is ranked ninth in the latest standings, a level he had never reached before joining the organisation.

Parnasse made his UFC debut in the main event of UFC Paris at the Accor Arena, where he stopped Dan Hooker. He attacked from the opening bell and produced an early stoppage after connecting with a series of powerful strikes. Hooker, a New Zealander, is now ranked 13th in the division.

The victory gives Parnasse a higher position than a number of established lightweights and places him just behind Frenchman Benoît Saint-Denis. Justin Gaethje leads the category, with Ilia Topuria in second. Parnasse therefore begins his UFC career close to the championship picture rather than having to work through the lower end of the rankings.

The former KSW champion has set his sights on reaching the top five quickly and has expressed interest in facing Max Holloway, who is fourth. A meeting with Saint-Denis is also among the possible routes, although Parnasse is not particularly keen on that matchup. Mateusz Gamrot and Quillan Salkilld have also been identified as potential opponents. The UFC may first seek to assess whether Parnasse can sustain the level shown against Hooker before giving him another major test.
