Luis Hernandez submits Sedriques Dumas in 57 seconds

Luis Hernandez turned a late call-up into a successful UFC debut by defeating Sedriques Dumas in 57 seconds. The victory made the Miami-Dade County sheriff’s deputy the first active police officer to compete in the UFC, adding a notable distinction to his arrival at the promotion.

Hernandez replaced Mickey Gall after Gall was injured during fight week. He had secured his UFC contract through Dana White’s Contender Series only two weeks earlier, leaving little time between earning his place and making his promotional debut. The fight took place in Las Vegas and drew attention because Hernandez faced an opponent known publicly as a former inmate.

The contest ended in the opening round when Hernandez caught Dumas in a guillotine choke. Dumas has fought in the UFC since 2023 and had been arrested 14 times since 2014, including four arrests during his UFC period. He was also jailed in Florida in April 2025 for burglary and weapons possession.

Hernandez had rejected attempts to reduce the bout to a simple police-versus-former-prisoner narrative, stressing that Dumas was a father trying to earn a living. Inside the cage, however, the replacement fighter settled the contest before a full minute had elapsed, giving him an immediate win at UFC level.
