Sénégal relance sa campagne vers le Mondial 2027

Senegal have revived their 2027 World Cup qualifying campaign by overcoming reigning African champions Angola in a tense second-round game of the fourth qualifying window. The result gives the Lions a response after their opening defeat to Egypt and keeps their momentum alive ahead of their final game of the window.

Senegal won 84-82 at Dakar Arena in Diamniadio on Saturday. Angola controlled much of the early contest and held a 46-43 lead at half-time, but the Lions recovered after the interval. The teams entered the final quarter level at 63-63 before Senegal secured the narrow winning margin in a closely contested finish.

Captain Brancou Badio led Senegal with 24 points after managing only nine in the loss to Egypt. He struggled from three-point range early on, then found his shooting touch during the third quarter as Senegal erased a six-point deficit. His contribution helped the hosts stay in contention while Selton Miguel’s perimeter shooting kept Angola ahead for long periods.

Senegal now face Mali at 18:30 GMT on Sunday in their last match of this qualifying window. The Angola victory marks a return to winning form, but the team must quickly prepare for another important game after a demanding two-day sequence.
